Kathy Quilts! :: batting

KQ Batting Image

Batting - The Right Batting Makes All the Difference

There are two main types of batting that Kathy uses, Cotton or Polyester. Wool batting is really nice, but it is also expensive. If you have a special project, and you are not sure which type of batting to use, ask Kathy. Kathy uses Hobbs 80/20 about 90% of the time. She will also use Bleached 80/20 depending upon the size quilt she is doing or if the quilt top is a really light color. You don't want your quilt looking dingy because the batting is darkening it up.

Which Batting Should I Use?

This is really a personal choice. Kathy uses Hobbs 80/20 Heirloom batting for almost all the quilts she does. On quilts that have a light colored top, she will use the Bleached Hobbs. The Bleached Hobbs is nice because it comes 108 wide. We only have this on the roll, but it is worth if if you do a lot of large quilts. If you also have a quilt that the color of the batting might show through, you should try the bleached Hobbs
